Spoon Weekend Update: 3 Foodie Festivals
This weekend Puerto Rico’s foodies can get boozed, get smoked, and go green. Three festivals will showcase Puerto Rico’s multifarious culinary offerings set amongst some of the islands most charming venues. In what is quite possibly the ultimate dichotomy of deliciousness, 7,000 pounds of premium BBQ will be served up at Bahia Urbana, while 30 miles east and a world away, Fajardo will host the inaugural Puerto Rico Vegan fest.
- Taste of Rum Festival 2016
WHEN: Friday, February 19 (7pm-10pm) and Saturday, February 20 (1pm – 8pm)
WHERE: Paseo de la Princesa, Old San Juan
Rums of Puerto Rico is at it again with the 7th Annual Taste of Rum Festival. Held in association with the Puerto Rico Tourism Board, this festival is a firm favorite of Spoon Food Tours. Attendees will celebrate ‘500 Years of Party’ at the historic Paseo de la Princesa in Old San Juan while sipping the best rums from all over Puerto Rico. The event features 10 rum booths, live bands, DJ’s, a mixology competition, rum seminars, art, and a variety of food stalls.
- Puerto Rico’s 9th Annual Smokin’ Hot BBQ Competition
WHEN: Saturday, February 20 (2pm) and Sunday, February 21 (12pm)
WHERE: Bahia Urbana
The Caribbean BBQ Association in collaboration with Sam’s Club, will host the 9th Annual Smokin’ Hot BBQ Competition at the beautiful Bahia Urbana. This stunning outdoor event space will be packed with competitors serving over 7,000 pounds of meaty goodness. Admission is $25 per day or $35 for both Saturday and Sunday. Save $5 by presenting your Sam’s Club membership. This event is in absolutely no way vegetarian or vegan friendly. It is the Big Bad Wolf of food festivals. He’ll huff and he’ll puff and he’ll blow to perfectly stoke your wood and charcoal fire.
- Puerto Rico’s 1st Annual Vegan Fest
WHEN: Sunday, February 21 (1pm-7pm)
WHERE: Plaza Publica de Farjardo
The 1st Annual Vegan Festival is where the Three Little Pigs should take refuge should they suddenly find themselves on the endangered species list. Free to the public, this event will includes educational talks, music, games for children, and delicious vegan fare. Sponsored by E. Moran Inc., festival goers will have the chance to win prizes and are invited to learn about the benefits of a plant based, cruelty free diet.

What The Truck?!
With more than just cunning for punning, ‘What the Truck!?’ Food Festival hosted by Food Truck Republic will delight diners at the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico on Sunday, February 28. Some of our favorite trucks will be there including: Dondesea, The Meatball Company, Yummy Dumplings, Cosechas, Mi Suegra, Cool Hope, and La Caribena. Music by Milo Torres y el Tercer Planeta, Gabriel y Mora, and Los Bronson. Visit the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico and make a full day of it. The event starts at 1pm and lasts until you’re so trucking full that you can’t trucking eat anymore. $10 admission.
