Saborea 2015 Recap
Another year, another phenomenal success from the organizers of Saborea 2015. The sun shone on the enchantingly beautiful shores of Escambrón Beach, as participating restaurants served delicious bites to the hordes of hungry attendees. Ceviche, sliders, ribs, churrasco, salads, chocolate frappes, bacon cupcakes, flan, California wine, beer, craft cocktails! All this and much more was on offer to the culinarily curious.
An array of food demonstrations, cooking competitions (one judged by our own Paulina Salach) and cocktail making techniques were also on display in the General Electric Kitchen Demo Theater. We stopped in to watch several demonstrations including one conducted by the beautiful and bubbly Susie Jimenez and one Puerto Rico’s top chefs, Roberto Treviño. Not only were their broad smiles a perfect pairing, but their shared Mexican heritage made for expertly prepared sopes filled with tender carnitas and crisp cabbage and fennel slaw. Emceed by the incomparable Giovanna Huyke and punctuated by a watermelon mojito instructional from the mixologists of Rums of Puerto Rico, this was a delicious and fun demo that left us racing toward the Libation Station for a minty mojito and the Tasting Pavilion for anything pork.
The Rums of Puerto Rico tent stunned this year. Set atop a perch overlooking the festivities and the sapphire waters of the Atlantic, bartenders made delicately crafted cocktails while DJ’s spun revelers into a state of utter bliss. We simply cannot wait for Saborea 2016. Ever-inspired, we are always learning from the tremendous wealth of skilled chefs and bartenders on the Island of Enchantment.
